Discover our signature jute rope — lightweight, easy to handle, with a consistent twist tailored for shibari folks.

Available as a single-ply 3 strand 6mm rope, it comes in a 200-meter spool. This is well suited to those inclined to treat their own set of ropes. Untreated jute, while stiffer, requires careful handling, and it's not uncommon to encounter minor imperfections. Should you encounter any, we recommend cutting around them. For beginners, pre-cut untreated ropes are also available.

Note: reels will have sections of rope that have manufacturing imperfections - some reels more than others - it is not possible for us to guarantee the quality of any specific reel. Please be aware not all 200 meters of rope in any given spool will be useable.

Specifications:

  • Jute rope
  • Single-ply, 3 stranded
  • 6mm thickness (nominal)
  • 200m
  • Natural colour

    Care & storage

    Surface fuzz is normal

New jute develops a layer of fine fuzz. Some people singe this off; you can also brush it off with a coir brush, or just allow it to shed naturally with use. It's part of the breaking-in phase every jute rope goes through and not a defect.

    Keep it dry

Jute is a natural fibre and doesn't love being damp. If you can, we recommend airing your ropes out after use by hanging them. If your ropes do get wet you'll need to hang them under tension.

    Re-oil when it dries out

Over time and use, jute loses some of the oils and will start to feel stiff and brittle. Re-treat the ropes with a jute-suitable oil (camellia/tsubaki oil is standard, jojoba oil is also very popular). How often you'll need to treat your ropes depends on how often you use it, whether it's used on skin or clothing and also the climate.

    High stranding

I was very hopeful about this rope after reading many great reviews. I have pulled about 12 full hanks from this reel so far and all start high stranding after about 5 ties. I'm very careful with my rope handling - not aggressive. I always de-energize the ropes after each session and treat them regularly. It's a big investment just to discover that most of rope will not be in my suspension kit for long and will be quickly retired to floor-only or cut up for other purposes.

    Great rope as usual!

It was really easy to order the rope and it arrived quickly great service. The quality of the rope is 1st class.
Using the reel to prepare rope with the correct lengths for my rope partner so they can be joined at a good place.
Thank you will definitely be back.

    Monygrab whit JBO

Sad to say that the amout of JBO in this product maks it un useful on pepol 😭 making this feel like sutch a monygrab 💸

I was shockt to finde that a rope studio would finde this aproprietary to tie whit.

I tryd to heat tret it to get rid of the JBO but even after this the smell from the JBO remains. Handling this rope made my hands smell of the JBO for 24h and you are going to be itching.

Ye sure it is a nice rope but do it mater when i cant use it for tieing?

If you wish to buy rope meake sure thay say JBO free! Or you will get 220 m rope you cant use.

    Perfect rope

The best rope I've processed myself and I've processed a fair bit as I only use rope I process myself. I've used a fair few different suppliers and this stuff is easily the best I've had. It comes very stiff but once processed and broken in, it's soft and pliable without being too pliable. Breaking in didn't take long at all either and I can already tell there's more breaking in possible so the already perfect rope feels like it will age brilliantly. I've managed to get it a brilliant colour and it smells amazing with little to no JBO smell once treated (dry treated by the way). In fact, I like it so much I don't think I'm going to risk going anywhere else for reels of rope. Customer service is top notch too.

Rope is good but too thick

I started my rope journey with a roll of Ogawa and continued with a roll of Nawaya. Ogawa was a bit too loose for my taste and required a lot of care. I like Nawaya better but it's expensive and a bit harder to break in. I bought this roll to give it a try as it is advertised as something in between the two other ropes.

The Anatomie rope seems of good quality. Smell-wise, the chemical smell is quite strong when not treated but will go away eventually.

The main reason for my 2-stars rating is that the rope is way too thick. About 6.6mm ± 0.1mm (measured with a caliper) whereas it is advertised as 6.0mm. It makes a huge difference and makes this rope unusable for me. After some use and tensioning, the rope doesn't really get much thinner.
Note that Ogawa also comes slightly thicker than advertised but it gets quickly thinner with use and tension. From my experience, Nawaya is the only rope that is precisely the advertised thickness, and it also gets a bit thinner after being used with tension (0.2-0.3mm)

    Hope it helps!

    The reel deal

What can be said other than Anatomie's signature jute? The rope is the same grade and quality as used by the studio for all their rope requirements so it's got to be top notch. I certainly concur. To date, I've got a full kit of great gear to process and I'm really looking forward to creating with these new ropes!

Best bulk rope you can buy!

I'm on my second spool and cut 3 full suspension kits for myself and others. The rope is beautifully scratchy and stiff at first (great for masochists) and breaks in quickly to become supple and polished.

    You should buy :)

    Continuing my rope journey

So impressed by the first reel i purchased in the last year, brought a 2nd reel, for the sole purpose to make up new larger set of rope and introducing bold colour in contrast to the skin. The rope dyied really well, after soaking for half hour in tub and now I have a bright orange set bringing colour to journey. Highly recommended, especially to anyone who is wanting to add their own unquieness to their ropes, fast delivery too.

I read in one review that the diameter of this rope is not 6mm but 6.6mm. Is this true?

    Anatomie Rope Shop

The measurement of the diameter of any rope (especially natural fibre ropes like jute and hemp) provides only "nominal" values, because the same rope can vary in thickness when the temperature or humidity changes. It's also incredibly difficult to measure rope diameter using calipers as you need to decide how tight to go. Furthermore as the ropes wear in they get thinner due to stretching and general wear and tear.

For the above reasons rope manufacturers typically make rope to a specific yarn count, or grams per metre, as these are quantities they can control. They know approximately what yarn count will result in a particular diameter, but it's definitely not a precise science. The way they measure diameter is actually by observing if they can pull the rope through a 6mm drill hole.
